In the construction process, there are so many unforeseen costs. Creation of the budget is done before the construction process starts. The budget to be used in this regard must reflect some amounts set aside as miscellaneous funds to cater for unforeseen costs. Such an amount is set at a certain percentage of the total cost of the entire budget.

In normal circumstances only the key materials are reflected when preparing for a budget. Projected labor is also reflected in the budget and this is estimated at a certain percentage of the materials. Risks are common and are prevalent at all times including when the construction process is ongoing. There are instances where need arises to cover the costs and seek for compensation form the insurance company later. Miscellaneous budget in this regard helps the contractor to proceed with the work without being disrupted by the occurrence of the risk whether insured or not.

It is a basic accounting requirement to have an amount set aside as miscellaneous funds. Whether this will be used or not the basic requirement is set at a percentage of the total cost of the project in place. Setting aside this amount is of much importance as it ensures the construction process is not halted owing to an occurrence that was not reflected in the budget.
